Online guitar tuner
Pick the instrument, pluck a string and turn the peg until the needle stops in the middle. Works with any microphone, the one in your phone included.
The sound is analysed on your device and dropped straight away. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
Auto follows the string closest to what you play. Tap a string to tune only that one.
How to tune
- Turn on the microphone and hold the instrument close to it, in a quiet room.
- Pluck one string and let it ring. The note, the needle and the cents show how far off it is.
- Left of centre is flat, so tighten the peg; right is sharp, so loosen it. Within 5 cents the dial turns green.

Questions
How do I tune to Drop D?
Pick Guitar · Drop D. Only the sixth string changes: it goes down a whole tone, from E to D, so the strings read D A D G B E. Pluck the low string and loosen it until the dial shows D in the centre, then check the other five, since slackening one string can pull the rest slightly sharp.
Does it work with my phone's microphone?
Yes. Any phone, tablet or laptop with a built-in or plugged-in microphone works, in a current browser. Allow the microphone when the browser asks, hold the instrument close to it and find a quiet room. On an iPhone, if you refused by mistake: the aA button in Safari's address bar, then Website Settings, then Microphone.
Is the sound recorded or uploaded?
No. The tuner listens to the microphone on your device, works out the pitch frame by frame and drops the sound straight away. Nothing is recorded, nothing reaches our server, and there is no app to install.
Why does it keep saying “Pluck a string”?
It is waiting for a clear, steady note. Pluck one string at a time and let it ring; muting the others helps. If it still does not react, move the instrument closer to the microphone or turn down whatever else is playing in the room. When a note dies away, the last reading stays on screen, dimmed, for a moment, so you can reach for the peg.
Which tunings and instruments does it cover?
Guitar in standard (E A D G B E) and Drop D, four-string bass (E A D G) and ukulele (G C E A with the high G). Chromatic mode shows the nearest note for anything else from a bass's low E up, so open and other alternate tunings work too; a five-string bass's low B is below its range. The reference is A = 440 Hz, and a string counts as in tune within 5 cents.
